Welcome Message/Updates

If you find yourself looking for a blog with regards to all things anime, you’ve come to the right place. My nickname is Rose/Rosepetals, and I’ll humbly be your tour guide. *bows*

I’m glad you’ve taken the time to visit, even if you don’t take my opening line seriously (in which case, I am; if you know me from over at Media, my twin blog, then you’ll know that this is a normal thing for me :) ). This post is just a way for me to be able to greet and show you what updates I’ll be making to this blog from time to time.

About the blog, in brief, this was a subsection that was split in May 2008 of my main blog “Media through Rose-Tinted Glasses”. It became such a large part of what I was blogging that I decided to separate it out and let it be taken for what it is. I took a long hiatus from both this blog and Media for several months, bogged down with school, but now, I’m semi-active and trying to keep it going. I don’t really do it for profit, just as a hobby.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my blog, perhaps even find something new to take from it all, and finding out a bit about my own preferences/opinions in the mix. :)

Updates: 12/29/2008 I will post what I have of my Favorite Anime Inserts/Endings Compilations complete, at least what I can get through this weekend, but it may be a while before the countdown itself is actually finished.

Doing a best of compilation entry with respect to 2008. The year has yielded some gems when it comes to series, but overall, compared to the past few years, I have to say I’m disappointed. There were a lot of series that had potential in their beginning runs only to lose steam either at the very end or gradually lost it as it went on. Still, I think it’s worth mentioning some of the titles that stood out in my eyes over the past year.

After that, I’ll have to jump back into a few series that I stopped blogging: Nodame Cantabile (season 1) and Higurashi Kai. I’m finishing those off after taking a hiatus from them for a long, long time. I don’t know if I’ll go back to blogging anime series after those two, at least as I follow them. It takes more time than I actually have in my life to follow that intricately, unless I already own the series and can write at my own pace. There are many other blogs who tackle the detailed anime summaries a lot more than myself, but what I will probably keep doing are the “First Impressions” blogs and perhaps a summary blog (like a review) of series as I finish them. It all depends on time, something I don’t have a lot of these days, but then again, who does?

Love and Luck,

Rose

My 101 Favorite Anime Opening Themes (Compilation and Story)

For those of you that have been following my blog over the past few weeks, I posted a series of videos that chronicled my favorite anime opening themes at present. Granted this list was a year in the making, probably more than that because I made essentially two lists and revised the first one to form the second (you can find the list on my Youtube channel. It’s very different from the revision, so if you’re interested give it a go).

This list below is my current ranking of themes at present. Granted, this list is always subject to change, but I keep it here for record’s sake. A little over a year ago, I started watching anime themes crop up on Youtube and a number of different anime sites and publications noting what they believed to be the best anime themes of all time (opening, ending and insert) of all time, ranging from the 60s to present day. There were a lot of choices I found myself not agreeing with: either I thought their sequences were too dull or the song was simply to a series that was for its ecchi sequences, or the songs were too much from one genre of anime/music….you get the idea. So I was inspired to create my own list of favorite anime themes. Mind you, this is NOT a best of list. These are my favorite themes, fair and square, they shift order on some terms for the song, others I find myself taken with the sequence in conjunction with the song. So you could say its both a subjective and objective list: subjective in terms of the song stylistic suiting my taste, appeal, memorability and value , objective in terms of how it presents itself in technicality, symbolism and conjunction/fit with the series.

So, here they are, in order from #101 to #1. If you want explanations, check my blog for the videos and beneath the cuts for extended commentary. This is just the bare list for my favorite anime openings. I’ll have a separate list for my favorite anime endings and insert themes later.

Hope you enjoy, and as always feel free to comment.

*out of breath*

This is my top 10 anime openings. It took a while to upload them and write the comments regarding them accordingly, but at least most of the work was already done. This project has been a year in the making, as has my other anime lists (you’ll see them in coming updates, I’ll probably upload my favorite ending themes to the blog very soon, as well as a “Just missed cut” for those who are interested), so I’m very excited to be able to share these with you.

You may not agree with my list, but if that’s the case, I encourage you to make comments here on my blog and even share with me your own favorites/top 10. I don’t expect you to be as ambitious as I was XD (making a list of 101 anime themes, with two sets of ties, is not easy, you find that it’s very easy to take too many songs from one series and miss a number of your other favorites in the process), but I’m always up for opinions.

With that, my top 10 anime openings resides in the video and under the cut. Warning, there are some offensive images in one of the openings in this video, so it’s not intended for sensitive viewers.

Small error on this video: for whatever reason it has the right theme song, but the wrong set of #s. >.< This is indeed my favorite anime openings 29-20, not 49-40. List of themes in this video noted under the cut.
